I see individual piano lessons as a form of mentorship—where students not only bring music to life, but also let music bring meaning to their own lives and to others. As a teacher, I guide students by sharing knowledge, shaping their musical voice, and inspiring them to become the best musicians they can be.
My two main goals are:
To help students fully understand the elements of music—technique, theory, history, and sound.
To help them express that understanding in performance with confidence and emotion.
In short, I want my students not just to play the piano, but to perform music from within.
My studio welcomes students of all ages, backgrounds, and ability levels. I have experience teaching teens and adults in private lessons, group classes, high school programs, and college lecture settings. Each student’s curriculum is tailored to their goals and needs, using high-quality music and methods to ensure a meaningful education.
My teaching style sparks curiosity. With a versatile musical background, I teach a wide range of repertoire—from classical (Baroque to contemporary) to hymns, jazz, and popular music. I also emphasize important keyboard skills like sight-reading, harmonization, and transposition. Students receive a well-rounded foundation that includes theory, aural skills, sight-singing, conducting, basic voice, composition, and ensemble work such as accompaniment and piano duets.
I believe in developing functional, independent musicians—not just students who can play a few polished pieces. Strong musical skills give students freedom and confidence.
Drawing from my research in Rae de Lisle’s Fit 4 Piano, I teach students to become aware of their movement and technique. Healthy playing habits start with healthy movement. I encourage students to use video recordings in lessons and at home to observe and refine their technique.
As a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music and active member of MTNA, I support student evaluations such as MTNA Student Day and graded exam systems like RCM, ABRSM, or Trinity College London. These assessments are optional but useful for tracking progress. I also recommend competitions for students seeking growth or preparing for music degrees.
Beyond weekly lessons, my students engage in group classes (for beginners and intermediates) and monthly studio classes (for advanced students). They may be invited to perform in masterclasses or participate in community outreach and benefit recitals. We also host end-of-semester and seasonal recitals throughout the year.
Above all, I encourage healthy, consistent practice. My teaching includes personalized strategies to help students practice effectively and enjoy their progress. Whether you're learning piano for serious study or personal enjoyment, I want every student to grow, feel inspired, and become the best musician they can be.
